Jaguar partners with British America's Cup team, Team Origin

Jaguar has announced a partnership with TEAMORIGIN –‘TEAMORIGIN racing with Jaguar’.

TEAMORIGIN, the British America’s Cup sailing team, created by Sir Keith Mills with the single purpose of winning the America’s Cup for Great Britain is joined by Jaguar for a summer of sailing activities. The first event that will see ‘TEAMORIGIN racing with Jaguar’ is during Cowes Week this August, when they will face BMW ORACLE Racing (the current holder of the America’s Cup) in the 1851 Cup event.
San Francisco is only American nominee for AC34 host - Other European venues still being considered

San Francisco has put forward a strong, well-rounded venue proposal, and is now the only city in the USA under consideration to host the 34th America’s Cup match.

The city is home to the Golden Gate Yacht Club, whose team BMW ORACLE Racing, won the 33rd America’s Cup in Valencia, Spain on 14 February.

The 34th America’s Cup is scheduled for 2013 or 2014, the year to be determined by infrastructure development lead-times.
Luna Rossa will not enter 34th America's Cup

The news that came from Italy on Monday evening is certainly a big loss for the sport of sailing and the America's Cup. Patrizio Bertelli, the owner of Luna Rossa, has decided not to take part in the 34th America's Cup.

“I am shocked and outraged at the way Team Shosholoza has been treated this week and condemn in the strongest terms the audacious action taken by the Consortio Valencia 2007 who have used the Spanish Police to seal off the South African America’s Cup base in Port America’s Cup in Valencia, Spain, and ordered us to empty the base and vacate it immediately.

Azzurra, the Italian boat with the old name and the young crew, defeated Britain’s TEAMORIGIN in the closest of four hard-fought races on the opening day of the Louis Vuitton Trophy Auckland.

Italian skipper and helmsman Francesco Bruni snatched a victory from Britain’s three-time Olympic gold medallist Ben Ainslie at the first weather mark of their race as their boats rounded the mark overlapped. Sailing above the mark, Ainslie tried to luff his opponent only to see the Italian execute a swift spinnaker set, sail clear and go on to win.

Now that the 33rd America's Cup is done and dusted and while we are waiting for news on its 34th edition, there was an interesting piece of information that caught our attention this morning. According to an article  that appeared today in Arabian Business, Dr Khater Massaad, CEO of RAK Investment Authority (RAKIA), stated that despite his Emirate not holding the 33rd America's Cup, the $2 million spent on it were a good investment since they "put RAK on the world map".
Challenger of Record to race Louis Vuitton Trophy Auckland

Mascalzone Latino Audi Team, the recently-annointed Italian Challenger of Record for the 34th America's Cup, joins seven other Cup contenders in Auckland next month to race on New Zealand's Waitemata Harbor for the Louis Vuitton Trophy Auckland.

Inspired by last year’s Louis Vuitton Pacific Series and sailed in former America’s Cup boats, the Louis Vuitton Trophy Auckland is the second of five match race regattas. In France last November the Italian team Azzurra led by Francesco Bruni won the Louis Vuitton Trophy Nice Côte d’Azur, defeating the favorite Emirates Team New Zealand and its skipper Dean Barker 2-0. Both teams are part of the eight-syndicate entry for Auckland.
